Atlanta Chapter 5

The Montford Point Marine Youth Leadership Camp is a one-week immersive experience designed for rising 4th and 5th grade students, focused on building character, confidence, and leadership from the inside out. Hosted by Atlanta Chapter 5 of the National Montford Point Marine Association, this camp blends history, etiquette, financial literacy, and health and fitness into an engaging and age-appropriate curriculum.

Throughout the week, students will learn about the Montford Point Marines, the first African Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps, who trained at segregated Camp Montford Point during World War II. Despite facing discrimination and limited resources, these Marines demonstrated discipline, resilience, and excellence under pressure. Their perseverance helped pave the way for the integration of the armed forces and changed the course of American history.

Using their story as a foundation, the camp teaches students that adversity does not define them. Character does. Through interactive lessons, guest speakers, teamwork challenges, and up to three field trips to local organizations, participants will see firsthand how collaboration, preparation, and leadership create success. Students will also practice proper etiquette, learn basic financial principles, and engage in daily physical activity that reinforces the connection between mental and physical strength.
